Message From Oakridge CEO Re: Critical Needs Related to COVID-19

Oakridge Neighborhood

March 19, 2020

Dear Friends,

In these uncertain times as we all work to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on our community, support for the vulnerable families we serve at Oakridge Neighborhood is more critical than ever.

Our dedicated team remains on-the-ground ensuring the important programs that support our families go uninterrupted. We remain focused on Oakridge Neighborhood’s critical mandate – to help children achieve and families thrive by providing safe housing and essential services so they can reach their full potential. Services like our nationally accredited early childhood programming for over 60 young learners so parents can work. Youth programs providing academic support, enrichment, meals and a safe place for 85 youth. Critical trauma informed services to help adults and their families navigate, including case management, translation and interpretation services, and access to food, household supplies and HOPE!

Continuity of our services is of utmost importance to the over 1,100 people that call Oakridge Neighborhood home. Over half of those are children under the age of 18, many are Seniors, 60 percent are refugees and immigrants, and nearly 90 percent have a yearly average household income of less than $20,000. Their need is great.

We know many of you are looking for ways to help others in the community during this challenging time, and we would welcome your support. Critical needs include:

Non-perishable foods such as rice, pasta, peanut butter, canned meats

Essentials including cleaning and sanitation products, paper products, personal hygiene items, infant/toddler wipes

Monetary donations to address specific needs. Visit: oakridgeneighborhood.org/donate

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions or other ways you’d like to contribute. Contact Kristin Littlejohn, Director of Development, at KLittlejohn@oakridgeneighborhood.org or (515) 991-6802.

We are so grateful to our community partners, volunteers, donors and community champions for your ongoing support of the critical work of Oakridge Neighborhood — helping children achieve and families thrive. Our sincere thanks. Together we are #oakridgestrong.

Please be well and safe.
