Oak Academy Early Learning & Preschool
Oak Academy: State and Nationally Accredited
Oak Academy provides safe, nurturing and high quality child care and early enrichment education to an ethnically and culturally diverse group of infants and toddlers ages 6 weeks to Pre-K.
A Des Moines Public Schools Head Start preschool location, we prepare our young people to enter kindergarten ready to learn on a level playing field with their peers. Oak Academy is nationally accredited and an IQ4K Level 4 state licensed early care and preschool designed to meet the social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of the whole child. It meets and exceeds the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s (NAEYC) standards.
Our program utilizes the research-based Creative Curriculum, founded on principles of child development, individualized for each child and incorporating culturally relevant practices. In our child-friendly environment children encounter daily experiences that mirror their ethnic and cultural backgrounds and those of their classmates.
Our Philosophy
At Oak Academy, we are deeply committed to fostering an inclusive, nurturing, and enriching environment that supports the holistic development of every child. Guided by principles of excellence, we aim to empower children to thrive. Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that every child deserves a strong foundation for lifelong learning, and we strive to meet the diverse needs of our families and community through high-quality early childhood education.
Whole-Child Development
We embrace a whole-child approach that addresses the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical aspects of development. By creating a safe and stimulating environment, we encourage exploration, curiosity, and creativity while promoting resilience and independence. Through age-appropriate, individualized instruction and culturally relevant practices, we ensure that every child’s unique strengths and needs are celebrated and nurtured.
Excellence in Early Education
As a nationally accredited, IQ4K Level 4 state-licensed facility, Oak Academy is dedicated to exceeding the highest standards of early childhood education. Our use of the research-based Creative Curriculum provides a framework that is both evidence-based and adaptable, ensuring that children are prepared to enter kindergarten ready to succeed alongside their peers. Our curriculum reflects the cultural richness of our community, offering daily experiences that affirm each child’s identity and broaden their understanding of the world.
Dedicated and Caring Professionals
Our highly qualified teaching staff is at the heart of our program. All educators are state-certified, fully credentialed, and hold degrees in early childhood education or related fields. They engage in continuous professional development, dedicating over 30 hours annually to staying abreast of the latest research and best practices. This commitment ensures that our team remains at the forefront of early education, providing unparalleled care and instruction.
Parent and Community Partnerships
We believe that parents are essential partners in their children’s educational journey. Through open communication, biannual parent-teacher conferences, and opportunities for ongoing collaboration, we foster a strong connection between home and school. Our low teacher-to-child ratios allow us to provide personalized attention, ensuring each child receives the support they need during this critical developmental stage.
Diversity and Inclusion
Oak Academy celebrates the rich ethnic and cultural diversity of our community. By incorporating culturally responsive teaching practices and creating an environment where all children feel valued, we cultivate a sense of belonging and mutual respect. This inclusive philosophy prepares our children to navigate and contribute to an increasingly interconnected world. At Oak Academy, we are not just preparing children for kindergarten; we are laying the foundation for a lifetime of learning, growth, and success. Together with our dedicated staff and supportive families, we are shaping the leaders and thinkers of tomorrow.
